Black Bean Brownies

You guys know, we popped up last month in Lower Austria! A very big thank you to all of you who came by!

The only dessert on my menu was black bean brownies with avocado oreo ice cream. Sounds amazing, I know. I didn't tell my guests that the brownies contain beans... just because I knew some people wouldn't eat something so exotic. At first I myself couldn't believe that it would taste that good! I mean, it's black beans, right!?

Anyway, they loved it and asked for the recipe, so here it is:

You'll need

+ 500 grams black beans or kidney beans
+ 20 grams raw cocoa powder
+ 80 grams oat flakes
+ 150 grams maple syrup
+ 80 grams coconut oil, melted
+ pinch of salt
+ vanilla (fresh vanilla is best)
+ 1 tsp baking powder
+ 80 grams chocolate chips

Throw all ingredients in a mixer (I like to use the Thermomix blender) and mix until you have a smooth batter. Now spoon the mixture into paper cases or a muffin tray or simply pour into a pan. Bake for 20 minutes and voilà!

The avocado ice cream is great too and I will post the recipe as soon as I have time to do so (and hopefully don't forget). The base is made from rice!

xx Christina

  1. HI! Ive seen similar recipes, never looked into them properly. Are the kidney beans in your black bean brownie recipe plain, dried beans? Or have they been soaked and cooked? Just double checking, I would like to try this recipe! Thanks for posting!!
